Visit 2 of Mexico’s most beautiful and historic cities. Flying into the Leon airport we are close to Guanajuato, our first destination. It is a stunning city with numerous opulent colonial buildings, lovely plazas, and brightly colored houses dotting the hillsides. We are conveniently located in the city center where we explore excellent museums, handsome theatres and even an unusual marketplace designed by Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame.
It is a vibrant and young city with many cultural events including the callejoneadas, who walk the streets at night and sing and you can join in if you like. We will travel outside of the city to see El Pipila Monument and visit the ex-hacienda San Gabriel with its stunning gardens, as well as a stop at the silver mine, which at one time produced 40 % of the worlds silver.
We spend 3 days in this interesting city and then head for San Miguel Allende with a stop in historic Dolores Hidalgo. The small, charming city is famous historically and for its Talavera pottery and ice cream – all of which we enjoy.
On to San Miguel Allende where we stay in a lovely hotel right behind the famous Parroquia – the “pink wedding cake” church. We have a trolley ride to learn about and enjoy the city.
We also take a ride to visit the Fabrica La Aurora which was once a fabric factory and is now full of lovely shops and great restaurants.
And in San Miguel there is a mind-boggling array of upscale shops with crafts from all over Mexico and numerous restaurants serving fine cuisine in lovely settings.
For our closing dinner we enjoy one of them, as well as a sunset cocktail to enjoy one of the fabulous views of the city.
After our 3 lovely days in San Miguel we return to the Leon airport for our short trip back to Vallarta.
