This trip begins and ends in Puerto Vallarta. A group flight will be arranged but is not covered in the cost.
Travel to the breathtaking canyons of Northern Mexico, and to the fascinating Tarahumara (Raramuri) people, who live in caves as they have for centuries. This experience is truly stepping back in time, and one you will always remember!
From the airport in Los Mochis, we travel to El Fuerte, a picture-perfect Mexican town where we enjoy our stay in the lovely Posada del Hidalgo. We have a town walk with our guide, a great Opening Dinner and are entertained by Zoro.
Our journey begins in the early morning and will take us on one of the best train journeys in the world. We travel from sea level to 8000 feet thru spectacular scenery, including 36 bridges and 87 tunnels.
Our first stay is in Cerocahui, a small town noted for forestry. Here we have a chance to walk the area and visit the church and girls’ school, which is a delightful experience. We are astonished by spectacular views.
Next, we are transported to the top of the canyons to our Hotel Mirador, which is perched on the rim of the canyon with unforgettable views from every room. The hotel has always been spectacular but has just been renovated.
During our stay in the canyon, we have some exciting and memorable experiences. On a trip to the Adventure Park, where we ride the cable car over the canyon for different views of the trails and homes below. You can also do the zip line if you chose. Other activities, are a visit to a Raramuri cave home, walks with our guide and we delight in storytelling and cooking with the Raramuri. We visit Divisadero for more stupendous views and a chance to shop a market with local crafts, especially the beautiful baskets made by the ladies. We are entertained with a demonstration of the local games by the women and men.
After the 4 days we spend in the canyon, we ride the Executive train where we have lunch in the dome car, before returning To El Fuerte. Here we might see zorro again and we enjoy a lovely celebratory dinner.
All meals in the canyon are included and are served family style set fair.
