Colombia
This trip begins in Bogota, Colombia and finishes in Cartagena, Colombia. Flights will be arranged but are not covered in the cost.
Our discovery of Colombia begins at the Bogota airport, where we pick you up and check in to our charming hotel located in Candelaria – the historic district. This area is full of beautiful cathedrals and colonial buildings and a lovely theater. We enjoy our Welcome Dinner with a view of the city spires beyond.
While in exciting and sophisticated Bogota, we have a city walk with our guide, and a trip on the funicular to the cities highest point with stupendous views. To soak up the culture, a visit to the famous Museum de Oro and the Botero museum are “musts”. While in the city, there is a dinner and a coffee tasting at 2 local restaurants for a taste of local culture and cuisine. Our final day is spent at the Usaquen art and antique market. Usaquen is an upscale suburb with lovely parks and delicious restaurants. Throughout our visit there are many interesting murals to observe, and fun shopping abounds.
Flying to Periera, the coffee area, is a short flight and we enter into a different world full of lush green hills dotted with coffee plantations.
Our charming hacienda is our home for our visit, and we venture out for a coffee plantation tour and one day is spent in the small historic towns nearby. There is great shopping, and we have a lovely lunch there to add to our day. For the hotel bring your swimsuit.
Continuing on, we have another short flight to Cartagena – a city you will fall in love with. It is a well-maintained UNESCO site with breathtaking colonial architecture, horse drawn carriages and cobblestone streets adorned with flowers. Our stylish hotel, which is called “something special” was designed by an acclaimed Colombian fashion designer and built inside a restored 17th century mansion. While in the city, we will visit the fun and amazing market, have a city walk and a tour by van around the different areas. You will see the famous walls that line the city (and these are great for an early morning walk) and see the historic fort, all with our guide.
Cuisine is fabulous in the Caribbean. One day we have a cooking demonstration followed by lunch. This is a great walking city filled with interesting shopping and delicious restaurants and unique ice cream and coffee drinks to try. One evening we take a boat tour to see the sunset on the water, with snacks and wine.
Our final night is our Farewell Dinner, spent at a wonderful, and my favorite restaurant, where we toast our adventure and the varied beauty and warm people of Colombia.
